TrainSMART FAQ'S

WHAT IS TRAINSMART?

TrainSMART is Pro-Cut's nationwide training and certification program offering comprehensive instruction in rotor matching. Pro-Cut has partnered with numerous automotive schools to offer the highest quality training and facilities.

The two-part program begins with an online class and exam where techs can earn ROTOR MATCHING TECHNICIAN (basic) certification (Part I). The online class can be self-administered, and is required for Part II. The second part of the program is a hands-on training class offered at one of our official training centers, where techs can earn PRO-CUT MASTER TECH (advanced) certification.

For the technician, TrainSMART is a ticket to getting access to one of the most profitable pieces of equipment in the shop. For the shop foreman or owner, TrainSMART is an insurance policy that the Pro-Cut on-car lathe will be put to use in the hands of fully trained professionals. TrainSMART provides the means for technicians to make more money, and the shop to make higher profits.

HOW DOES TRAINSMART CERTIFICATION WORK?

TrainSMART is a 2-part program that involves an online learning center, and a hands-on training class where you interact with an instructor and the equipment. Each program leads to certification:

1. Become a certified Rotor Matching Technician by completing the online class and quiz. (Required; 30-90 minutes)

2. Become a certified Pro-Cut Master Tech by completing the online class AND attending a TrainSMART hands-on training class at an official training center in your area. (Approximately 2 hours)

Part I: TrainSMART Online Class & Rotor Matching Technician Certification The online class portion of TrainSMART is available in both written and audio format, and provides a basic understanding of brakes, brake pulsation, and best service practices. The study section should take no more than two hours to complete and is followed by a multiple choice online exam. A student may take the exam as many times as needed and must score 80% to pass. Passing the online exam earns a student a certificate, mention on our website, and an official TrainSMART Rotor Matching Technician toolbox magnet. NOTE: a student must pass the online exam BEFORE enrolling in a training center class (Part II).

Part II: TrainSMART Onsite Training & Pro-Cut Master Tech CertificationHands-on training classes are offered only at authorized TrainSMART training facilities and run for two hours, generally in the evening. These classes combine lecture, discussion, video and hands-on use of the on-car brake lathe. In addition to learning how to set-up and use the Pro-Cut lathe on virtually any vehicle, students/techs are taught how to adjust, maintain, and troubleshoot the equipment. Completing the hands-on portion of the program earns a student/tech PRO-CUT MASTER TECH certification and recognition as a TrainSMART Certified Technician on the Pro-Cut website. The sponsoring service center is also recognized as being TrainSMART certified.
