DISCUS Rotor Measuring System Approved by General Motors

December 15, 2002

General Motors has recently approved Pro-Cut's DISCUS Rotor Measuring System. The product will be made available to GM dealers through the Dealer Equipment Services Program. The DISCUS Rotor Measuring System was named a Top 20 Tool by Motor Magazine. The system was an in-house development project that was led by Chris Greenwald, Pro-Cut's director of research and development and consists of two pieces- a hand held computer/printer unit and a remote measuring tool. The two pieces communicate via infrared signal. The remote tool straddles the rotor and measures thickness and runout. This information is relayed to the hand held unit where it is compared to vehicle specifications. A summary can be printed with the push of a button.

In addition to simplifying the process for techs, the Discus also improves customer relations. "Shop owners and service managers have had no way to effectively communicate rotor specs to their customers," said Greenwald. "The Discus computer gives accurate readings and the print-out provides the customer with straight-forward information on their vehicle. The customer can understand and have faith in the information presented."

Pro-Cut International is patent-holder and marketer of the Pro-Cut series of on-car brake lathes including the VBG620 and PFM 9.0 SmartLathe. The company is located in West Lebanon, NH.
