Pro-Cut Unveils DISCUS Rotor Measuring System
September 1, 1999
Pro-Cut International used the Big 3 Brake Symposium in Detroit to introduce their latest innovation in brake service, the Discus Rotor Measuring System. The Discus is a patent pending system that measures rotors and compares them to manufacturer's specifications.
The Discus system consists of two pieces- a hand held computer/printer unit and a remote measuring tool. The two pieces communicate via infra red signal. The remote tool straddles the rotor and measures thickness and runout. This information is relayed to the hand held unit where it is compared to vehicle specifications. A summary can be printed with the push of a button.
"This system puts everything in the tech's hands," said Chris Greenwald Pro-Cut's Director of Research & Development. "There's a multi-faceted measuring tool plus the database all in one."
In addition to simplifying the process for techs, the Discus also improves customer relations. "Shop owners and service managers have had no way to effectively communicate rotor specs to their customers," said Greenwald. "The Discus computer gives accurate readings and the print-out provides the customer with straight-forward information on their vehicle. The customer can understand and have faith in the information presented."
The unit presented at the Big 3 Brake Symposium is an early working prototype. Pro-Cut expects to come to market with the product in the first quarter of 2000.
Pro-Cut International Ltd., LLC markets a growing range of proprietary brake repair tools including the patented Discus rotor measuring system and the Pro-Cut series of on-car brake lathes. The company is located in West Lebanon, NH.
