NEW PRO-CUT 9.2 BRAKE LATHE ELIMINATES CHATTER, CUTS CAPTURED ROTORS, SPEEDS FLAWLESS ROTOR REFINISHING
May 27, 2005
WEST LEBANON, NH, May 27, 2005 –- The completely new Pro-Cut PFM 9.2 auto-compensating on-vehicle brake lathe is the ultimate in precise, chatter-free brake rotor refinishing. Efficiently performing precision brake rotor turning on domestic and import automobiles, SUVs and light and medium trucks without removing the rotors, the 9.2 lathe also produces superior rotors on the new "captured rotor" brake systems on General Motors Colorado and Canyon vehicles.
Featuring Pro-Cut's exclusive Tuned Dampening System (TDS) to eliminate chatter when turning rotors, the 9.2 is powered by a unique 1.0 hp High Amp Flash-Start motor, and designed and constructed for years of heavy, productive use producing superior refinished brake rotors. Pro-Cut's 9.2 provides computer-controlled accuracy to within .001 inch, and normally accomplishes this in one pass, finish cutting up to .020 inch from each side of the rotor. Lateral runout is eliminated with the 9.2, which finishes rotors in 9 minutes or less on any lift configuration.
The Pro-Cut 9.2's many profit-building innovations include:
- Tuned Dampening System (TDS) . TDS eliminates 1200-1400 Hz chatter -- the frequency at which all rotors seek to vibrate -- before it has a chance to build. Non-cantilevered tool supports, combined with interface dampening at all contact points have eliminated the need for interrupted cut systems, which can adversely affect surface finishes. The 9.2 is the only on-car lathe equipped with this feature.
- High-Amp Flash-Start Technology. The 9.2 has an innovative 1.0 hp motor with High-Amp Flash-Start Technology that allows a brief surge of electrical draw without overloading and/or tripping a circuit breaker. This provides a surge of power that will turn virtually any hub without the need for cumbersome variable speed motors that compromise surface finish.
- Ergonomically Balanced. The mounting point for the 9.2 has been moved so the lathe not only pivots around the center axle but is also balanced so the lathe is easily moved to any position and held there with virtually no effort with the new "split block" clamping mechanism.
- E-Z Assemble Adjustable Trolley. The 9.2 trolley has a modular design that assembles in minutes. The innovative arm is adjustable by a standard impact wrench so lathe clearance can be raised to fit on most drive-on racks, or lowered for compact storage. The three-point footprint allows for easy maneuverability around crowded shops
- Modular Design of All Critical Components --Thinking beyond the warranty, Pro-Cut anticipated the high use and long life of the Pro-Cut 9.2 lathe. Engineers designed a system that is arguably the most repair-friendly piece of equipment in the shop. Every component of the lathe including the motor, cutting head, solenoid, and computer box are all easily removed and replaced. Even the adjustment flange is a threaded unit that can be changed out in minutes with common shop tools. In addition, every 9.2 comes with a 24 hour parts promise that guarantees Pro-Cut will have the parts in stock and shipped within 24 hours or the part is free. No other equipment manufacturer has put this kind of innovation into insuring the extended functionality of their product.
- Digital Signal Processor Adds Speed and Accuracy. The Pro-Cut 9 series remain the only on-car brake lathes that have fully automatic run-out compensation. The 9.2 has raised the bar further with an all new digital signal processor (DSP) that more tightly filters ambient vibration from the electrical runout signal for faster and more accurate results. With only the push of a button the 9.2 delivers accuracy to within 0.001" in less than 30 seconds on average.
- And Handsome, Besides -- Style Matters! By looking at the end before beginning the design process, the Pro-Cut team delivered a piece of shop equipment where form and function were fused. No other piece of shop equipment has the high tech look and feel of the PFM 9.2. Why does this matter? Techs are human, too. They appreciate tools that look as good as they operate. This appreciation in turn yields better care and more frequent use both of which enhance the value of the original investment for years to come.
"The 9.2, with its many advanced features, represents the natural evolution of the Pro-Cut on-car lathe. The 9.2 takes brake rotor re-finishing to a new level of efficiency and precision, and we are happy to make this lathe available to the automotive aftermarket. The General Motors designation of the 9.2 as an "Essential Tool" is a solid testimonial for this new lathe -- now brake specialists everywhere have the opportunity to put it to work for improved, more profitable brake service," said Jeff Hastings, President of Pro-Cut.
The new lathe has been named an "Essential Tool" for all General Motors dealers selling the new Chevrolet Colorado and GMC Canyon trucks. The "captured rotor" mounts the brake rotor to the back of the wheel hub with separate fasteners, instead of to the front of the hub with the wheel studs. Removing the rotor from the vehicle requires removing the entire hub/bearing assembly, and the "captured" rotor is difficult to mount on a conventional off-vehicle lathe. GM has accordingly specified on-vehicle rotor turning for these vehicles.
